Government acts on electrical safety

As letting agents in Cambridge we take tenant safety very seriously, so we were pleased to learn that the government is bringing in changes to the rules on electrical installations. Under the new regulations, it will be compulsory for landlords to have the electrical installations in their rental properties checked every five years.

It is believed that the new rules will have a significant impact on the safety of tenants, and Andrew Ward, Award Property’s founder and owner, welcomes the move. ‘At Award we already encourage our landlord clients to undertake fixed wire testing every five years, even though it has not been mandatory until now,’ says Andrew. 'We focus on delivering a high-quality service to both landlords and tenants, and we feel very strongly that the provision of a safe environment for all renters is fundamental to a mutually beneficial relationship. As proactive letting agents in Cambridge, we fully support this measure from the government.’
