Local Focus: Histon and Impington

As we’re proud to be based in Compass House on the Vision Park, we thought we’d kick off our Local Focus feature with the village of Histon and Impington.

Located to the north of Cambridge, Histon and Impington offers a persuasive combination of country living and accessibility to one of the UK’s fastest-growing and most dynamic cities. It’s this combination that’s making Histon and Impington an ideal choice for both families and professional couples. In fact, Cambridge city centre is a short drive or a 20-minute bike ride away, and the village is also served by regular and reliable public transport.

In the village itself you’ll find an array of amenities, including independent shops, a café and a choice of pubs. Educational needs are also well catered for, with the primary and junior school both currently rated Outstanding by OFSTED and Impington Village College being an excellent choice for pupils of secondary school age. In addition, there are five places of worship.

Local sports are headlined by Histon Football Club who are currently members of the United Counties League Premier Division South and play at Bridge Road. Once members of the Conference National, in 2008–09 Histon defeated League One Swindon Town 1–0 in the First Round Proper of the FA Cup. They were drawn against Leeds United in the Second Round and, in front of the ITV cameras, Histon won 1–0 to qualify for the Third Round, in which they lost to Swansea City.

For exploring the local area the guided bus runs through the village and offers easy access to St Ives and Huntingdon, as well as the centre of Cambridge, Addenbrooke’s Hospital, the Science Park and the newly-opened Cambridge North Station, which has direct trains to London.
